Meet Our Trash Free Team!

Your support of Trash Free Maryland means everything to us.  Since you put so much faith in us, we want to share a bit more about who we are. Our small but mighty organization is united by a deep love for nature and a strong focus on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for packaging, including all that plastic!

Please allow us to introduce you to just a few of our mighty Team Members!

Brian Scheerer

A Maryland native, Brian plays golf, and when he’s not hitting the links he’s analyzing natural gas prices and cruising the beautiful waters of the Chesapeake Bay. As the Treasurer of Trash Free Maryland, Brian takes the lead in ensuring the fiduciary integrity of our organization. His expertise is further enriched by his involvement in the in-house environmental team at BGE. Connected via the Business Volunteers of Maryland, Brian chose to volunteer with Trash Free Maryland because he believes Maryland can be free of trash!

Rachel Thompson

With over 9 years of experience as the Program Manager for the Baltimore Community ToolBank, Rachel brings a wealth of knowledge in nonprofit management to Trash Free Maryland, as well as her enthusiasm for ridding Maryland of litter. Rachel connects Trash Free Maryland to an amazing array of non-profit resources and keeps us all posted on the latest about the O's!

Jack Obermaier

One of our longest-serving board members, Jack is the lead architect of Cheers to Clean Water, a data collection event involving an array of locally owned breweries, a business sector Jack once worked in. Today, Jack is studying biology at Towson University for his second undergraduate degree and is looking forward to furthering his studies in plant sciences in graduate school. Jack is not only a dog whisperer but also an avid concert-goer, and he's a strong advocate for a trash-free state!

Bill Dennison

Bill, the Interim President of the University of Maryland's Center for Environmental Science, is a renowned expert in Chesapeake Bay restoration. His wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm greatly benefits Trash Free Maryland's board. He's one of the leading scientists in Chesapeake Bay restoration and joined our cause because of our focus on keeping plastics out of the Bay. Bill is a scientist of the globe, his work has taken him to Australia and traveled to most, if not all, of the planet's major estuaries. We feel incredibly fortunate Bill landed back on Maryland's Eastern Shore and with us!

This Giving Tuesday, will be a pivotal point in changing plastic pollution culture, all proceeds of our campaign will go directly to education, implementation, and execution of Extended Producer Responsibility for Packaging, which will lead to smarter design choices for producers, better handling of end life of products, and improved recycling systems.

Please donate to help us hit our #TrashFreeTuesday $5k Goal!
