Results are in! Cheers to Clean Water 2022!

Cheers to Clean Water 2022: We collected 91 bags of trash and 507 plastic bags and accomplished so much more.

Middle Branch: 13 bags & 50 plastic bags

Herring Run: 31 bags & 307 plastic bags

Gwynns Falls: 25 bags & 90 plastic bags

Canton Waterfront: 22 bags & 75 plastic bags

This year we implemented and tested a new method for data collection. The method begins with selecting a Policy Priority Item, an item likely to affect policy this coming Maryland General Assembly session. This year it is plastic bags.

We asked volunteers to pilot a new methodology for counting priority policy items we are calling “real time recall.” We also tested its accuracy. We got great results on both fronts - the method was easy to use and highly accurate.

Nine months into the City of Baltimore's plastic bag ban, it's no surprise that plastic bags are still out there. We collected over 500 in 2 hours. This is why we think it is vitally important to pass a statewide law encouraging consumers to use their own bags during the 2023 Maryland General Assembly session. Typically, successful models ban plastic bags and couple that with a requirement for stores to charge for paper bags which then encourages people to use their own bags.

Thank you to our amazing volunteers that came out this Saturday! The event would not be as successful without all of you that come out year after year to clean up. Thank you as well to all our newcomers and we hope to see you again next year. Maryland thanks you for it!

A huge thanks to MOM's Organic Market!

Our event simply would not be possible without MOM’s but our appreciation goes much deeper.  We are so proud to partner with MOM's Organic Market because they walk the talk. Sustainability and minimizing packaging is what they do every day and these efforts make a huge difference in trash reduction.

Our Baltimore brewery partners

An inspiring group of small locally grown businesses doing their very best to make Baltimore even better! We so love that these very busy brewers take the time to come out and clean up with us. As Judy and Jeff of Checkerspot Brewing Company said to our volunteers, thank you for being here.  Judy and Jeff, Eddie of Peabody Heights Brewery and Monument City Brewing, Union Craft Brewing, Mobtown Brewing Company, and Charm City Meadworks, we thank you for supporting ours and so many other efforts across Baltimore!

The Complete List of Breweries
