Who is Trash Free Maryland?

You’d be surprised,

We get that a lot!

As we head toward Giving Tuesday later this month, we want to take this opportunity and the next few #TrashTuesday’s to tell you a little more about Trash Free Maryland and what we do. Hopefully by the end of the month we will have inspired you to donate toward the vision of a Trash Free Maryland!

Who Are We?

Trash Free Maryland is a small but mighty organization strictly focused on creating lasting local and state policy change to eliminate trash and litter in the state of Maryland.

What does that mean?

It means we advocate for policy changes to reduce trash in Maryland over the long haul.

  • Eliminating single use take out food polystyrene containers? Check, it was a commonly found item before the ban.

  • Advocating for a new way of designing packaging, almost a third of our waste stream? Absolutely!

  • Setting up pilots to figure out the best ways to keep people engaged in cleaning up their communities? Yep!

  • Committing to including diverse voices in policy decisions to strengthen policy positions. Yes!

  • Educating our leaders about harmful effects of trash and plastic? Of Course!

We are indeed lean.

We worked in a remote environment long before the Pandemic to keep costs low and direct all funds to our work. We have a small staff focused on only trash. We lead a Coalition of partners, large and small, private and non-profit, to engage when there is action to be taken. It has proven very efficient and effective. We are nimble, open to new ideas, looking to diversify, and work collaboratively. We are committed to environmental justice. Our funding comes from foundations, corporate sponsors and people like you.

Over the next four Tuesdays we plan to share more about our work in hopes of earning your support this Giving Tuesday 2022!

Please donate to help us hit our #TrashFreeTuesday $5k Goal!
